The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage: The (mostly) True Story of the First Computer
Debut Graphic Novel from Sydney Padua
Why I”m excited:
Because it looks joyful! While I do love (and recommend) a lot of darker pieces, I am also always on the lookout for something to brighten my day. ‘The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage’ imagines what might have happened to Ava Lovelace and Charles Babbage if they had managed to invent the first computer in 1830. (Their real life collaboration resulted in the first known computing equation. It would take over 100 years for that to evolve into an actual computer.) In Padua’s re-imagining they use the computer to battle spelling errors, explore math and fight crime!!!! This concept originally started on Padua’s blog, http://sydneypadua.com/2dgoggles/ The graphic novel will be wonderful if it’s even half as charming as her blog.
